Sinopsis

Agrónomo, poeta, pensador utópico, Amílcar Cabral fue el líder del movimiento anticolonial contra Portugal en Guinea-Bissau y Cabo Verde, hasta su asesinato en 1973. Derechos humanos, utopías, amor interracial, ambición, guerra y traición son los ingredientes de este documental filmado en 16mm y construido con archivos inéditos y un diario imaginario a partir de los escritos íntimos de Cabral.

An agronomist, poet and visionary thinker, Amílcar Cabral led the anticolonial movement against Portugal in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde until his assassination in 1973. Human rights, utopias, interracial love, ambition, war and betrayal are the ingredients of this documentary, shot on 16mm and built upon previously unseen archival material and an imaginary journal that draws on Cabral’s private writings.

MIGUEL EEK (Madrid, 1982) es cineasta y productor de documentales. Se graduó en la ESCAC e hizo una estancia en la Universidad Politécnica Arcada de Helsinki.

Su cine se centra en los márgenes sociales, la memoria colectiva y la experimentación formal, oscilando entre la observación cercana y el ensayo fílmico. Sus películas, a menudo fruto de largos procesos de investigación y diálogo con los protagonistas, despliegan una poética entre el testimonio y la reflexión política, abordando temas como identidad, género, memoria histórica y el cine como espacio de encuentro comunitario.

Sus películas han sido seleccionadas y premiadas en más de 50 festivales de todo el mundo. En 2019 estrenó Ciudad de los muertos, documental que recorrió una treintena de festivales como Fipadoc o SEMINCI y fue reconocido con el Premio Ciudad de Palma 2019. Ese mismo año, su último largometraje, La Primera Mujer, se estrenó mundialmente en la sección First Appearance de IDFA 2020 y en más de 20 festivales internacionales de cine. Su última película, La Carga, coproducida por TV3 y Filmin, se estrenó mundialmente en el FIDBA.

MIGUEL EEK (Madrid, 1982) is a documentary filmmaker and producer. He graduated from the ESCAC and spent time at Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki.

His work focuses on society’s margins, collective memory and experimentation in form, oscillating between intimate observation and an essayistic style. His films, frequently the result of long research processes and dialogue with the protagonists, create a poetics that walks the line between testimony and political reflection. They address themes like identity, gender, historical memory, and cinema as a space for communities to come together.

His films have been selected for and won awards at over 50 festivals worldwide. In 2019 he premiered Ciudad de los muertos, a documentary that was screened at thirty festivals, including Fipadoc and the SEMINCI. That same year, it received the Ciudad de Palma award. His latest feature film, La Primera Mujer, had its world premiere in IDFA’s First Appearance section in 2020 and was screened at over 20 international film festivals. His last film, La Carga, co-produced by TV3 and Filmin, premiered at FIDBA.
