What does it mean to be a mother?
For 12 years, Mercedes has documented the life of her son Airam, diagnosed with ASD and PANDAS. This condition causes him sudden flare-ups that erupt like an awakening volcano unleashing its force without warning in the midst of calm — just like what happens in La Palma, the volcanic island they call home. For this mother, filming is a way to take a step back, while bringing her son closer by reaching out a hand.
