For the past ten years, the AFROLATAM international co-production forum has been held in the Canary Islands, a natural bridge between Africa and the Americas; It is a meeting place for Latin American, African and Canarian documentary filmmakers seeking funding for their projects, as well as for completed productions requiring distribution or screening, and features pitching sessions, one-to-one meetings and conferences.
Our fast-paced and uncertain times invite us to take a break from market activities in 2026. We propose redirecting our energy towards a space for reflection, lively thought and radical imagination. This is not merely an industry gathering; we aim to undertake a visionary exercise to identify forms of collaboration that will shape the future of the Afro-indigenous film industry. The aim is to cast a collective gaze towards the cinematic horizon of the Global South, exploring alternative forms of organisation, engaging with counter-narratives and asking ourselves how to consolidate an audiovisual discourse deeply rooted in the territory.

This dialogue aims to foster networks of cooperation that span the Atlantic, thereby weaving a fabric of connections between creators who share the urgency to decolonise language and do not ask permission to exist; they will also encounter training opportunities, funding, markets and distributors to collaborate on ways of making visible those other worlds that already exist.
We have decided to hold this special edition of the FORO AFROLATAM at the DOCanarias venue, where, over three days (from 9 to 11 September), we will hold discussions across four working groups with filmmakers, institutions, film labs and funding bodies. We know it will be a memorable event, which is why we intend to record the discussions to produce a publication that will enable us to share and thus disseminate the ideas generated
